Paper 2 focuses on examining your comprehension skills and your understanding of how to compare and contrast two non-fiction texts - one from the 19th Century and one from the 21st Century. Non-fiction texts may include, but will not be limited to: letters, extracts from autobiographies or biographies, diaries, reports, articles and digital and multi-modal texts of various kinds from newspapers and magazines, and the internet.
You will be assessed on:
How writers use language and structure for effect;
Your ability to identify and interpret information;
Your ability to synthesise evidence from different texts;
Your ability to compare texts from different eras;
Your evaluative skills.
You will also be given a transactional writing task, which will assess your use of:
Interesting and engaging vocabulary
Structure for effect
Persuasive language techniques
Tone and style
Spelling, punctuation and grammar
